Created vs. Resolved Chart

Is more coming in than we finish?

Two lines show how many work items were created and how many were resolved in each period. An optional subplot below shows how many work items were still unresolved over time.

Which work items count

Work items from the chosen project or saved filter that were created or resolved within the time window. The Created line counts by creation date, the Resolved line by resolution date. A work item created before the window and resolved in it counts only on the Resolved line.

Periods

Each point is one period: an hour, day, week, month or year ("Period"). The first period is complete, so the chart can cover a little more than N days; the header shows where it starts, for example "Since 2026-09-28". The last period is the current one, still running, and its tooltip says so. See Periods.

Count or cumulative

With "Values" set to Count, each point is the number for that period. With Cumulative, each point is the running total from the start of the window; work items from before the window are not carried in. Hover over a point to see the difference between the two lines at that point.

Unresolved subplot

The subplot is on by default ("Show unresolved"). It starts from Jira's count of the work items that were unresolved when the window began, then adds the created and subtracts the resolved work items period by period. That starting count is approximate, and the header says so: "Unresolved starts from Jira's count of open work items (≈ …), which may be off by a few." With "Unresolved starts at zero", the subplot ignores that count and starts at zero, so it shows only the change within the window, without "≈".

If Jira's count cannot be retrieved, the subplot is hidden and the chart says: "Unresolved hidden: Jira's count of open work items could not be retrieved. Reload the page to try again." In a widget that is too small, the subplot is hidden with the notice "Unresolved hidden at this widget size. Make the widget taller to see it."

Settings

With Hourly and more than 14 days, the form says: "Hourly grouping covers at most 14 days. The chart will show the last 14 days."

When the chart is empty

If nothing was created or resolved in the window, the chart says: "No work items were created or resolved in this window."

Opening work items

Click a point on the Created or Resolved line to open the work items created or resolved in that period. In Cumulative mode the click also opens only that period's work items, and the tooltip says so. The Unresolved subplot is not clickable.
